Heavy-Duty Mixers Are Usually Electric

Jul 21

When mixing large amounts of ingredients in a commercial kitchen, a reliable mixer with the right attachments is essential. From Heavy Duty Mixing Drive to specialized tote tank mixers, these tools come in a variety of sizes and styles to help you meet your specific needs. They also feature durable construction and are easy to maintain and operate, making them the ideal choice for busy commercial foodservice operations.

The simplest type of commercial mixer is a portable countertop model that comes equipped with one or more replaceable mixing tools. These include a dough hook for making cookies, breads and other baked goods; a flat beater that can be used to mix salad dressing, mashed potatoes and other dishes; and a wire whip that is ideal for whipped egg whites and meringues. Some models even have a second bowl that can be attached for double-duty.

These mixers typically have a small motor that is powered by electricity or gas and has a maximum capacity of around 10 qt. Depending on the model, these mixers may either be free-standing units with casters or mounted to a dedicated stand mixer base. Stand mixers typically have more power than countertop models and are better suited for tasks that require heavier mixing, such as kneading thicker pizza dough.

If your commercial kitchen requires you to mix larger volumes of ingredients on a regular basis, you should consider a large mixer that sits on the floor of your establishment. These industrial-sized machines can handle a wide range of materials and have interchangeable mixing arms for varying densities of dough. Some even feature timers that can program the number of work-cycles a mixer will perform.

For more specialized applications, you can find IBC tote tank mixers that are designed for use with specific types of liquid formulations. These mixers have special foldable stainless-steel mixing impellers that can be inserted into an IBC tote’s 6-in. opening to generate agitation for up to 3,000 cps. These heavy-duty mixers are usually electric and have a motor that is powered by gas or electricity.

When shopping for a tote tank mixer, you should look for a model that has been ETL-listed to ensure it meets North American safety standards. This mark is recognized by authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) and by retailers to represent a level of assurance that the equipment will function as intended, minimize hazards and prevent injuries. It is also important to select a model that features easy-to-clean, food-grade stainless steel components that can easily be removed for cleaning.
